How To Walk In The Spirit
Reminder: New episode of Dear Father God Podcast is airing this Thursday 6/1! Check how to listen at the end of this newsletter reflection.
Today, we embark on a journey of exploring the significance of walking in the Spirit and understanding the role and power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit is not merely a concept or an abstract idea; The Holy Spirit empowers, guides, and transforms us as believers.
So before we examine how we walk in the Holy Spirit, I want to explore what the Bible says the Holy Spirit is, what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit, and some examples in the text.
What does the Bible say the Holy Spirit is?
The Bible reveals the Holy Spirit as our Helper, Comforter, and Advocate, who leads us into all truth and empowers us to live a life pleasing to God. John 14:26 AMP,
26 But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.
What does the Bible say about the Holy Spirit?
The Scriptures are filled with references to the Holy Spirit, highlighting the Holy Spirit’s role in the lives of believers. From the Old Testament to the New Testament, we see the Holy Spirit at work, empowering individuals and bringing about the fulfillment of God's purposes.
Examples of verses that show the power of the Holy Spirit:
1. Acts 1:8 - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses..."
2. Romans 8:11 - "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you."
3. Galatians 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."
How to walk in the Holy Spirit:
1. Surrender and Yield: Surrender your life to the Holy Spirit, allowing the Holy Spirit to have full control. Yield to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, trusting in the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and direction.
2. Seek Intimacy: Cultivate a deep and personal relationship with the Holy Spirit through prayer, worship, and meditation on God's Word. Seek the Holy Spirit’s presence and allow the Holy Spirit to transform your heart and mind.
3. Obey and Follow: Be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and obey the Holy Spirit leading. Align your actions and decisions with God’s will, walking in obedience to God's Word.
4. Bear Fruit: Allow the Holy Spirit to produce fruit in your life—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Let His character shine through you.
5. Be Filled Continually: Seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit daily. Pray for a fresh infilling, allowing the Holy Spirit to empower you for every task and challenge.
Walking in the Spirit is a continuous journey of surrender, dependency, and partnership with the Holy Spirit. As we yield to God’s leading, the Holy Spirit empowers us to live a life that honors God and brings transformation to our world.
