Let Us Surrender Our Will to God: A Study of Proverbs on Righteousness and Diligence
The book of Proverbs is filled with wisdom. It speaks a lot about diligence and being consistently righteous. Proverbs 6:6-11, for example, encourages us to be diligent in our work and warns us against the dangers of idleness.
A Lesson from the Ant You lazy fool, look at an ant. Watch it closely; let it teach you a thing or two. Nobody has to tell it what to do. All summer it stores up food; at harvest it stockpiles provisions. So how long are you going to laze around doing nothing? How long before you get out of bed? A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there, sit back, take it easy—do you know what comes next? Just this: You can look forward to a dirt-poor life, poverty your permanent houseguest! Proverbs 10:2-3 reminds us that “the blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it”, showing us the benefits of living a righteous life. Proverbs also teaches us to be wise, patient, and honest.
No matter what we do, we should strive to be consistently righteous in our actions and decisions. We should be mindful of the choices we make and the paths we take, and always seek to do what is right and pleasing to God. We should never forget that He is always watching, and He knows our every thought and deed.
